General Information About The Treasurer's Departments back

Welcome to the Woodbury County Treasurer’s office, home of the best treasurer’s teams in the state.  I am fortunate to have the finest deputies and members of my teams as I could ever hope for. They all are very knowledgeable, and all are very conscious of performing good customer service, as good as or better than you would get at a retail establishment.  When you stop in, or contact us by phone or email, you will be treated as the good customer that you are.

My Property Tax Team collects taxes for real  property, mobile homes, utilities, buildings on leased land, drainage ditch districts and city and county special assessments.  We collect the assessed funds for 53 taxing bodies in Woodbury County, and do the billing, collection and apportionment for each at no cost to them.  This enables each taxing body to complete their budget on the revenue side, for each fiscal year. As part of this collection process the Tax Team is also responsible for tax sale duties such as, processing tax sale redemptions, issuing tax sale deeds, processing tax suspension and processing plats and mobile home tax clearances.

The treasurer is also charged with investing the county’s funds, to obtain the highest possible return on our investments while maintaining 100% safety of the funds.  Although the treasurer is allowed a wide range of investment options, it is the Woodbury County Treasurer’s policy to invest only in Woodbury County banks.  “If they pay property taxes in Woodbury County, they are entitled to bid on county funds”

The Motor Vehicle Team issues vehicle titles and licenses, registers and collects all vehicle fees for the vehicle owners in Woodbury County.  Within the Motor Vehicle Division is the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) which issues hunting and fishing licenses and processes titles and registrations for boats, ATVs, and snowmobiles.

A constant and on-going goal of my departments is to make our customer’s payments as convenient as possible. We have several innovations to do just that:  There are four Tax Department locations in Woodbury County.  The Tax Team is located in the mail courthouse.  The Motor Vehicle/DNR Teams are in the Trosper Hoyt building, and a full service Tax/Motor Vehicle/DNR office is in downtown Anthon. We also maintain a Motor Vehicle desk at the state’s Drivers License station.

For customer convenience tax payments and motor vehicle license renewals are available on-line by visiting our website:  www.treasurer.woodburycounty.org or via our treasurer’s statewide website: www.iowatreasurers.org

Property tax and motor vehicle payments may be made online or in person at all four locations using e-checks, MasterCard, Visa or Discover cards.

The Treasure Department Teams were honored for their work in 2001 when Treasurer Bob Knowler was names as the Outstanding Treasurer in the United States.
